New Orleans College Prep Students participate in Junior State of America Fall State in Austin, Texas

Four New Orleans College Prep 9th and 10th grader students traveled to Austin, Texas to participate in the Junior State of America (JSA) Texas Fall State this November. These scholars represented NOCP at a gathering of hundreds of motivated high school students in the House of Representatives chamber at the Capitol Building in Austin, Texas.
NOCP 7th Graders Win Public Library Read-Athon

The New Orleans Public Library recognized Thaddeus Rhodes and Austin Boykins as top readers in the Anime Club's recent read-athon. Austin read 40 books and Thaddeus read 20 during the month of August to win the contest, which raised money for Bibliotheque Parrainage, a nonprofit that supports libraries in Haiti.
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright Visits NOCP Scholars

NOCP was thrilled to welcome Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to campus on Tuesday, May 24, to lead a discussion with middle and high school students. Secretary Albright was the first female Secretary of State and, at that time, the highest-ranking woman in the history of the U.S. government. As Secretary of State, Dr. Albright reinforced America’s alliances, advocated for democracy and human rights, and promoted American trade, business, labor, and environmental standards abroad.

A few months ago, Daja Simmons was homeless. The young girl was afraid her classmates would find out. Now, the honor student we've followed from New Orleans College Prep is out of her shell and talking about Harvard and Yale!
NOLA College Prep Students Among Children Raising Money for Tsunami Survivors
To 16-year-old Gwendolyn Essex, pictures of Japanese towns shattered by the earthquake and tsunami were sadly familiar. Though the March 11 disaster hit the other side of the globe, the debris-choked streets and floating homes mirrored the destruction that Essex’s Lower 9th Ward neighborhood suffered during Hurricane Katrina.
